Palouse Habitat for Humanity is a very active affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International; They have experience involving college students in their work. Join a local build, in Uniontown, 16 miles south of Pullman, for an opportunity to provide a home for someone in the community.
This Leadership Adventure will offer the Habitat opportunity as the centerpiece of a four part program to help new students develop the "leader within." Beginning with a half day challenge experience, including low and high elements, participants will learn more about themselves and their group members as they work on developing leadership skills. During the second day, these skills will be put to the test as the group splits into two teams, one for the Habitat build and the other for the Dahman Barn restoration. The Dahman Barn project offers an opportunity to interact and assist local artisans with a barn, being remodeled to display their crafts. After lunch, the two teams will switch places, so that all participants will have both experiences.
WSU student project facilitators will be on hand to guide participants as well as share their own experiences at WSU. Participants will return to Pullman that evening for dinner and debrief activities.
On the morning of the third day, culminating activities will include a continuation of the artisan/construction theme with participants creating their personal reflections of their experience. Also, relevant faculty and community presentations will be offered.
Meals, housing in WSU residence halls and transportation to Uniontown will be included in your registration. If you have dietary restrictions, please contact us in advance at WSU.leadershipadventures@wsu.edu.
